The renovation and expansion of the Village View Shopping Centre in Bedfordview, Johannesburg, has added a latest generation 3000m² Checkers Fresh ‘X’ supermarket anchor to the well established and successful tenant mix of this neighbourhood centre that sits at the heart of its community. The positioning of the new anchor supermarket strengthens the existing centre layout. Taking advantage of the existing site levels, lower ground level parking was added directly below the new Checkers store, with generous trolley lifts provided to enable easy customer access directly to the store entrance. Simultaneous with this expansion, the rest of the mall enjoyed a complete renovation both internally and externally to seamlessly align the various Architectural components and styles that had evolved through the life of the centre. In response to the sophisticated local market, the design inspiration for this renovation evokes the timeless quality of a cosmopolitan shopping street with intricate mall tiling designs echoing the arcades of Paris or Milan. Through the creation of new skylights, the mall enjoys generous natural daylighting, supplemented by the creative use of artifical lighting and landscaping to provide a fresh and serene environment.
