Town Square at New Market Lifestyle Centre

Type: Retail & Showrooms
Completion: 2024
Size: 34 816m²
Client: Jonker Evolution

Town Square, a new 34,800m² open air shopping centre, has redefined the retail landscape of Newmarket since it opened its doors in May 2024. Situated strategically at the intersection of Heidelberg Road and Ring Road East in Alberton, and adjacent to The Mall at Newmarket shopping centre, Makro, Builders Warehouse, Virgin Active, and other existing retail outlets, this cutting-edge lifestyle centre elevates and extends the Newmarket shopping experience whilst paying homage to the rich historical tapestry of the site. The architectural vision for Town Square is rooted in the legacy of the Newmarket Racetrack. The design concept, draws inspiration from the grand pavilions that once graced the racetrack. The architects have skilfully translated this inspiration into a modern context, creating a shopping centre that reflects both historical grandeur and contemporary sophistication.

The entrance of Town Square is designed to evoke a sense of arrival and elegance. The use of composite timber-look cladding, raw steel, face brick and earthy colour tones pays tribute to the materials historically associated with the site, such as the stables and barns. This thoughtful design ensures that while the centre embraces modernity, it also honours its historical roots.
