Southernwood Mthatha Student Village is a purpose-built, three-storey student accommodation located within walking distance of Walter Sisulu University in Southernwood, Mthatha. Once complete, it will house 718 students in thoughtfully designed eight- and ten-bed pods, each with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities.

Ten-bed pods consist of five double bedrooms, while eight-bed pods offer a mix of single and double bedrooms. Each bedroom is fully furnished with a bed, built-in cupboard, desk, chair, and individual heater, ensuring comfort and functionality.

To encourage a sense of community, the development includes communal study and recreational areas, as well as laundry facilities. Each pod’s kitchen is fully equipped with a refrigerator, stove, microwave, and individual lockers for secure storage.

The architectural design features a bold and contemporary aesthetic. The façade plays with texture and material, using vertical grey panels and facebrick to create a barcode-like effect. Painted brick wraps the stair shafts with a perforated design extending from the roof, while a contrasting facebrick band below the mono-pitched, metal-clad roof adds a distinctive finish.

Southernwood Mthatha Student Village blends practical student living with a vibrant, modern design—creating a welcoming space for academic and social growth.
