Greenacres Shopping Centre
Type: Retail & Showrooms
Completion: 2017
Size: 50 000 m²
Client: Growthpoint Properties
Greenacres Shopping Centre is one of the first regional shopping centres in Port Elizabeth, built on the site of a historic horse racing track. Recent years saw a major shift in interest from the former CBD to upper Cape Road, placing Greenacres at the centre of this change.
The Shopping Centre subsequently experienced a high growth in visitors, necessitating both an upgrade and expansion. The premise of the design was to consolidate multiple smaller entrances into fewer more identifiable nodes, while also allowing more volume and light into the circulation spaces, thereby improving the general shopping experience.
The upgrade further addressed the need for better integration of parking with the surrounding vehicular and pedestrian access routes, thereby enhancing the approach, and overall usability of the Greenacres Shopping Centre.
